Bali Government: 4,000 Unemployed College Graduates Looking for Work.
The Bali Department of Manpower and Transmigration says more than 4,000
tertiary degree holders remain jobless among the total of 65,000 people
counted as unemployed on the island.
Quoted in Beritabali.com, the chief of the placement and job creation
section of the Department of Manpower in Bali, Anak Agung Putra Adi,
said on July 14, 2011, the high level of unemployment among university
graduates is due to the graduate's tendency to be “too selective” in
accepting job opportunities.
Putra Adi complained that job seekers with university degrees are too
picky in choosing a job, suffer from trepidation and reluctance when
looking for work, and tend to follow trends. He also took the
opportunity to criticize the way young people approach a job interview
as reflected in their mode of dress, saying, “I ask, are they applying
for work or going on holiday?”
He insisted that despite the high levels of unemployment the job situation in Bali was still quite promising.
His department estimates that there are presently 5,000 vacant positions
looking for new employees, a figure that grows 3.5% each year.
