Cirebon (ANTARA News) - The money
tranferred by Indonesian workers overseas through Western Union to the
post offices in their hometowns West Java had reached more than Rp900
billion.
Head of state postal company PT. Pos Indonesia in West Java Dasuki said
here on Wednesday that the workers` contribution to the state`s foreign
exchange revenue in West Java was quite big.
The amount was only the money sent through Western Union to PT. Pos
Indonesia, and not to mention the money sent through other financial
institutions, Dasuki said.
According to him, the biggest amount sent by the migrant Indonesian
workers mostly went to Indramayu district, followed by Subang and
Cirebon districts.
The total of the transferred money from Indonesian migrant workers
hailing from Indramayu district in the first quarter of 2008 were sent
through 33,628 transactions with a nominal value of Rp99.8 billion or 68
percent of the money transferred to West Java totalling more than Rp130
billion.
"The money transfer usually skyrockets in the fasting month, or shortly before this month of Ramadhan," he said.
The big amounts of money transferred to Indramayu was due to the fact
that the Indonesian migrant employed in the Middle East mainly came from
this district.
Data obtained from the Indramayu Social and Manpower office showed that
the total of money transferred sent to the district in 2007 reached more
than Rp600 billion.
